Respirators function to protect the wearer from inhaling harmful mold gases, vapors, fumes, or dust. They come in a wide array of types and sizes, depending for whom and for what they are intended. Some models are inexpensive, disposable masks; others are reusable models with replaceable air cartridges. The two main categories of respirators are (1) air-purifying, which forces the air through a filter, and air-supplied, in which an alternate supply of fresh air is supplied. Respirators are used by the public, private industry, and the military/police forces for different purposes. Once you have determined what kind of respirator is required for the hazard for which you are preparing, then you have to figure out the style and size to fit.
